Logitech G920 Driving Force : Notre avis sur l’un des meilleurs volants pour Xbox One

Do you love racing, speed and luxury cars? Unfortunately, you drive a Kangoo, or you don’t have a license yet. There’s only one solution: virtual driving on a console, and if possible with the best steering wheels . The Logitech G920 ( available here ) is one of the best Xbox One and PC steering wheels on the market. 

What are its qualities? Does it have any flaws? I had a bit of fun with it on Forza Motorsport 7, and I can already tell you that I cried when I had to give up the steering wheel… I’ll tell you all about my feelings in this complete and detailed review.

Design and manufacturing quality

Logitech does not benefit from the Ferrari license like Thrusmaster and its  F458 Spider steering wheel , but we are absolutely not disappointed by the design. The look takes the features of the G27 that had delighted PS3 players a few years ago, and the Xbox 360 had not been entitled to its version at that time. Today, there is a Logitech Xbox steering wheel and it is magnificent!

Leather lovers will not be disappointed, since this material is found all around the steering wheel. The touch is very pleasant and it obviously adds a lot of charm to the object which is not a toy, but a racing accessory! The seams are well marked, a little more discretion would probably not have been too much, but nothing too serious.

The base has two plastic hooks that screw in and then grip the table, desk, or other support like a vice. It only takes a few seconds to correctly place our Logitech steering wheel, which then has no chance of moving. Holes are present to fix the entire kit (wheel, pedals and gear box) on a dedicated racing support , such as the Playseat or the Rseat.

The gear paddles are made of aluminum, and attached to the wheel. They therefore follow the direction of rotation, and we cannot choose to leave them fixed. A quick word on the gear lever which is optional here. It only works in H box and does not have a sequential mode, which necessarily eliminates the possibility of using it as a handbrake, whether for drifting or rallying for example. It’s a bit of a shame for the price of the whole thing.

Ergonomics and use

A superb steering wheel

The steering wheel’s handling is really excellent. The force feedback is perfect, the resistance is very realistic, and we will be able to make different adjustments to adapt as we wish to most of the vehicles in the different games. The steering wheel allows a double turn, or 900°, and we find a magnetic field sensor that will allow us to be precise while improving the longevity of our equipment.

The three-spoke wheel made entirely of aluminum with leather upholstery and the ergonomic shape of the steering wheel are really perfect, you would really think you were driving a racing car. All the buttons on the controller are present, or almost… Oddly enough, the LT and RT buttons are missing. They fall well under the fingers, especially the multidirectional cross or the clicks of the LSB and RSB analog joysticks of the traditional controller.

A pedalboard above the rest

If the pedals are sometimes a little disappointing on this type of digital steering wheel, this is clearly not the case here, and it is really one of the strong points of this G920. There are 3 metal pedals, each offering a different resistance. It is the brake pedal which is obviously the hardest, with a progressive resistance which really allows to bring precision to our braking.

The clutch is more flexible, but still has a bit of response, and finally the accelerator, slightly further away from the rider, is the pedal that offers the most flexibility. You can’t change the resistance of each of the pedals, but you can adjust the distance between them. This will certainly be practical for those with very large feet in particular.

On the support side, the 3.2 kg of the pedals combined with very wide rubber pads ensure good stability, both on a smooth surface and on carpet. Of course, those who have a racing seat will still appreciate being able to fix them as securely as possible.

Game feeling and immersion

The behavior of this steering wheel is absolutely magnificent and realistic. The precision is perfect, you can attack the turns with a lot of confidence. It has good flexibility and the dual force feedback motor brings quite brutal interesting effects. When the car loses grip and you skid or when you are oversteering, the vibrations are good and allow us to let ourselves be guided by our sensations.

The immersion is really there, and the excellent realistic pedal board is also a big part of it. The whole thing behaves beautifully and we really enjoy driving and smashing the times we did with our poor controller that definitely can’t compete. In terms of precision, responsiveness and vehicle control, it’s just magnificent.

We note the presence of a very well thought-out configuration software that will give us the possibility of creating different profiles for different games. We will be able to assign the keys we want to different applications and make the use more fluid and pleasant.

The Verdict: Our Review of the Logitech G920 Steering Wheel

Yes, it is a little expensive , but what a pleasure! This Logitech G920 has a magnificent design, with a steering wheel all in leather and aluminum and a few touches of plastic to accommodate the buttons, perfectly integrated. The pedals are the best on the market, with good resistance, three efficient and precise pedals that bring an undeniable plus to the immersion.

The steering wheel’s force feedback and vibrations are very effective, which obviously brings its share of sensations and allows you to react more quickly when you start to skid or when you are understeering or oversteering. The precision is there, and you clearly don’t want to let go of this steering wheel once you’re started. It’s hard to find better on Xbox One!
